Gangeba Darbazobisa

“Gangeba Darbazobisa” (The Fate of the Session of Royal Council) is a Georgian legal monument. In the oldest manuscript (16th century) it has the title „წესი და განგებაი დარბაზობისა, რომელი აღესრულების მცხეთას კურთხევასა მეფეთასა“. It contains a description of the rules of consecration of chrism and the rules of sessions of royal council (darbazoba in Georgian) in Georgia. It is attributed to Michael the Catholicos (5th century). According to the information preserved in the monument itself, it should not have been compiled earlier than the 15th century: there are anachronisms in the text (e.g., the Atabeg is mentioned); The rules of sessions of royal council must have been intended only for Eastern Georgia (with the exception of Chqondidi, only Eastern bishops are mentioned in it).

The monument defines the place and respect of the representatives of the clergy during the coronation ceremony: a strong reflection of the struggle for supremacy is visible. The monument underwent changes over time. The last time the rules of the sessions of the royal council were approved by Erekle II and Anton I, in accordance with the existing situation.
