Kakhiashvili Kakhi

Kakhiashvili Kakhi (Akakios Kakiasvilis, Greek: Ακάκιος Καხιασβίλης) (b. February 13, 1969, Tskhinvali), athlete (weightlifter), a three-time Olympic (Barcelona, 1992; Atlanta, 1996; Sydney, 2000) and three-time World (1995, 1998–99) champion, a four-time European champion (1993–94; 1995–96), a two-time silver medalist at the World Championships (1993–94), and a two-time silver (1994; 1999) and bronze medalist (1998) at the European Championships. An Honored Master of Sports, he established world records: in the total  420 kg (in the 99 kg category, 1996); in the snatch  – two world records: 185.5 kg (in the 91 kg category, 1994) and 188 kg (in the 94 kg category, 1999); and in the clean and jerk  – three world records: 227.5 kg (in the 91 kg category, 1995), 228.5 kg (in the 91 kg category, 1995), and 235 kg (in the 99 kg category, 1996). From 1994, he competed on behalf of Greece. In 2006, he restored his Georgian citizenship. He was awarded the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali (1994).
