Ise Tsilkneli (Ise of Tsilkani)

Ise Tsilkneli [Ise of Tsilkani], one of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers who actively labored in Georgia. He arrived from the city of Antioch in the middle of the 6th century.

He was a deacon and a disciple of Ioane Zedazneli [John of Zedazeni]. Initially, he resided at the Zedazeni Monastery, but was subsequently consecrated as the Bishop of Tsilkani with the blessing of Catholicos Evlale I [Eulalius I]. He Christianized the population of the northern highlands of Georgia, where he dismantled pagan idol sanctuaries and constructed churches. He is interred within the Tsilkani Cathedral of the Mother of God. The commemoration day of the Venerable Ise Tsilknელი falls on December 2 (15).
