Kandelaki Giorgi

Giorgi Kandelaki (born April 10, 1974, village of Variani, modern Gori Municipality), athlete and boxer. He was a world champion in the super-heavyweight division (Budapest, 1997), a European champion (1993), and a silver medalist at the World Championships (1993). He also achieved the title of World Junior Boxing Champion (1992) and was a silver medalist at the World Cup (1994). In 1997, he competed in 24 bouts and won all 24, including 18 by knockout. He held the world champion title under the WBU (World Boxing Union) from 2002 to 2004. He was named Georgia's Athlete of the Year in 1997.

Kandelaki graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the Gori Pedagogical Institute (1997). He is the founder of the sports club "Chempioni" (1999) and has served as the President of the Professional Boxing Federation of Georgia since 2002. He was decorated with the Order of Honor in 1997.
