Jedlička Jaromír
Jedlička, Jaromír (October 9, 1901, Prague – August 1, 1965, ibid.), Czech linguist, Kartvelologist, Caucasiologist, and translator.
He graduated from the Department of English and Slavic Philology at the University of Prague. He initially taught the Georgian language at the Prague Institute of Oriental Studies (1946–1948), and subsequently at the University of Prague (1953–1961).
He translated The Knight in the Panther's Skin into the Czech language, publishing a prose translation of the epic poem in 1958, followed by a poetic translation. He also translated the works of Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, David Guramishvili, Daniel Chonkadze, Ilia Chavchavadze, Akaki Tsereteli, Leo Kiacheli, and Giorgi Leonidze, alongside Georgian folk tales and other literary pieces.
Jedlička researched both the Old and Modern Georgian languages. He published articles on morphological issues of the Georgian language, including The Structure of the Old Georgian Language (1961) and Word Formation and Declension in Old Georgian (1963), among others. He is the author of numerous articles reviewing the works of Georgian linguists, the Explanatory Dictionary of the Georgian Language, and the state of the study of Old Georgian and the Abkhaz language in Georgia. Furthermore, he regularly published reviews of works authored by foreign Caucasiologists.
