Vakhnianski Moses

Vakhnianski Moses (October 22, 1899, Novyi Buh, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine – April 7, 1964, Tbilisi), Russian director and actor. He was one of the founders of the Russian State Theatre for Young Spectators in Tbilisi.

In 1918, he graduated from the Tbilisi 4th Gymnasium. In 1919–20, he participated in the performances of the Russian drama circle at the Avchala auditorium. From 1921–22, he worked as an actor at the Russian “Proletkult” Theatre in Tbilisi; between1922–24, he worked as an assistant director at the Moscow Art Theatre, while simultaneously studying at the theatre's Studio; and from 1924–27, he worked in theatres in Baku and Tbilisi.

He served as the director of the Russian State Theatre for Young Spectators in Tbilisi from 1927–31 and 1945–64, and of the Magadan State Drama Theatre (1943–45).

Significant productions directed by him include: Innocent Guilty and A Profitable Place  by A. Ostrovsky; Special Assignment (Spetszadaniye) by S. Mikhalkov; Vasilisa the Beautiful by G. Vladychina and O. Nechaev; Son of the Regiment by V. Kataev; and Maia Tskneteli by V. Kandelaki, among others.
