S. Metreveli

        Saba‐Piruz Metreveli (b. July 29, 1970, Rioni, Tskaltubo Municipality) is a literary expert, critic, Doctor of Philology (2004). In 1989–1994, he studied at the Faculty of Philology of Tbilisi State University (TSU) and in 1990–1993, at the Department of Foreign Languages ​​of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the same university, specializing in German. He has worked at Tbilisi Public School No. 55 (1994–2007), Petre Iberi Religious and Humanitarian University (1994–1995), TSU (2003–2006), Small Academy (2005–2007), and the Agricultural University (2011). He periodically collaborated with the newspaper “Tbilisi” (1995–1997) and “Georgian University” (1999–2003), Public Radio (2008–2018) and Radio of Patriarchy — “Iveria” (2007-2011). Since 1998, he has been a research fellow at the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature; since 2014, he has been a visiting professor at the Saint Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia and since 2023, at the Georgian American University (GAU); since 2021, he has been the leading scientific editor of the Editorial Office of Language, Literature and Art of the Georgian Encyclopedia of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and in 2023, he became the head of the same editorial office.

        Metreveli's scientific interests and research areas include: literary history, criticism, history of Georgian drama theatre and aesthetics. He is the author of monographs in Georgian hagiography: Hagiographic Word and Logos (2000), Iconographic Metaphorical System of Georgian Hagiography (IV–X) (2008), Martyrdom and Lives of the Holy Assyrian Fathers (2014), Paradigms of Georgian Spiritual Culture — Hagiography (2020); In the 20th-century Georgian literature: Communist Hagiography (2015), Ana Kalandadze and Political Postmodernism (2018), Aesthetics of Soviet Totalitarianism — From Proletarian Realism to Socialist Realism (2022), The Fate of Goderdzi Chokheli (2024). Metreveli's works on theatre studies include: The Speech of an Actor (2009), Tragic Talent (2012), The Art of Acting (2016), book-albums: Lamzira Chkheidze (2019) and Zinaida Kverenchkhiladze — 90 (2022).

        Metreveli’s name is associated with the introduction of G. Chokheli’s works to the Georgian theatre. In particular, the premiere of the play Theatre of Fate (based on the stories of G. Chokheli) was held at the Sando Akhmeteli State Drama Theatre on October 2, 2015, and it was directed by Metreveli.
