Andre Grabar (b. July 26, 1896, Kiev – d. October 5, 1990, Paris) was an art historian, researcher of early Christian and Byzantine art, professor of the Collège de France and the École Pratique des Hautes Études, a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and scientific societies and academies of many countries. He is the author of fundamental works on iconography, painting and applied arts, and the history of architecture of late antique and early medieval Byzantium and Eastern European countries. Monuments of ancient Georgian art are also mentioned in some of his works.
