Kobidze David (b. September 24, 1906, Shua Amaghleba, present-day Chokhatauri Municipality – d. August 14, 1981, Tbilisi), orientalist, corresponding member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1979), Doctor of Philological Sciences (1948), professor (1949). Honored Scientist of Georgia (1967). He graduated from Tbilisi State University (TSU) in 1933. He participated in World War II. From 1953, he was the head of the Department of Iranian Philology at TSU. He researched the history of Persian language and literature, the relationship between Georgian-Persian literature of the classical and Renaissance periods, and Georgian and Persian poetics. Kobidze translated Saadi's Bustan and Gulistan. He was the author of the Chrestomathy of Persian Literature (vols. 1–2. 1963–1967). In 1976, he was awarded the I. Javakhishvili Prize.
